The Olympic Controversy
Does the US Government have any say in the 2028 Opening Ceremonies?

The opening ceremony for the Paris Olympics has caused a stir in the force. Controversy is stirring in the Christian Community. " In one scene, drag queens and dancers lined a long table in an image that sparked controversy after some connected the moment with Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” portrait of Jesus Christ and his 12 apostles." Though many found the moment an inclusive celebration for the LGBTQ+ community, others took to social media to call the imagery a “mockery” and “insulting to Christian people” following the performance.
Concerns have emerged in political speeches suggesting that the White House might influence the planning of the 2028 Olympics when it arrives on U.S. soil. While it seems unlikely that anyone would seek controversy during a presidential election year, it’s important to note that the decision-making power does not rest in the hands of the U.S. government. Instead, the responsibility lies with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the local organizing committees, which operate independently of political influence. This separation ensures that the planning and execution of the Games remain focused on the athletes and global unity, rather than domestic politics.
